Over the last couple of weeks the insurance articles here at the Mauceri Group have been focusing on the some of the more obscure coverage offered by the major insurance companies. These are generally optional endorsements that many people might not know about, but are important to consider when you are looking over a home insurance quote.
This week we will be looking at coverage for Mold Remediation. Mold Remediation is an interesting and important coverage because it is mandated by Texas law that all insurance companies operating in Texas offer this coverage to their customers. How each company chooses to offer that coverage is different. Safeco, in many of their policies, offers an included coverage limit of $5000 for Mold Remediation. Other companies such as Travelers, and MetLife, do not have coverage included, but are required to inform customers that this coverage is an option.
So what is Mold Remediation? It’s an endorsement that covers the expenses for the identification and removal of mold. It is important to note that Mold Remediation does not cover any damages caused by mold. Damages are not covered, as the general cause of mold – water damage – can be prevented.
