Continuing our weekly series of free insurance articles looking into the coverage you’ll find on a free insurance homeowners quote, this week we’ll be looking at Liability coverage. Liability coverage is an enormously important coverage to look at when examining any insurance quote you may receive, be it from a local insurance agent, or one of the big insurance companies.
Liability insurance protects you in case you are put into a position where you are liable for damages taken by someone on your property. This could be a case where someone is over at your house and slips and falls. If they injure themselves and decide to sue you to collect payment for medical bills or any other damages, liability coverage will protect you up to an agreed upon amount.
Liability insurance also covers instances outside your dwelling. For instance, here in the DFW area, temperatures often hit one hundred degrees in the summer time. Because of this, many citizens have pools in such cities as: McKinney, Grapevine, Keller, Frisco, and Plano. If someone is injured while over at a pool party, they can attempt to sue you to collect damages, again in this case Liability insurance will provide you with the coverage you need to defend yourself. If you have a dog, it’s also very important to consider the liability limits on your homeowners insurance, as if that dog should bite someone liability insurance will again provide insurance coverage to protect your assets.
Different insurance companies offer varying levels of liability insurance coverage. A rated insurance companies such as SafeCo, Metlife, and Travelers, all offer high liability limits for your homeowners insurance policy. A customer also always has the option to purchase an Umbrella policy to extend their liability limits. Umbrella policies will be touched on in another insurance article at a later date.
